Who visiting care can help

Visiting care, sometimes called domiciliary care, suits people who are mostly independent but would benefit from help at certain times of day. It also gives families peace of mind that someone they trust is checking in. It may help if you or a loved one:
  • find mornings or evenings harder to manage
  • need reminders to eat, drink or take medication
  • have recently come home from hospital
  • are living with reduced mobility, sight or hearing loss
  • want to stay safe and confident at home

What it looks like

A day with visiting care

Every care plan is different. Here is how visits might fit into a typical day.
  1. Morning

Help getting up, washed and dressed, a good breakfast and medication reminders.

  2. Lunchtime

A freshly prepared meal, a drink, a quick tidy and a friendly chat.

  3. Teatime

Preparing a light tea, checking you are comfortable and settled for the evening.

  4. Evening

Help getting ready for bed, a warm drink and making sure the home is safe and secure.

You choose how many visits you need. Some people have one visit a day, others have up to four.

Good to know

What visiting care does not include

Visiting care is not a nursing service. Our carers do not carry out clinical tasks such as injections or wound dressings. If you need this kind of support, we will work alongside your GP, district nurse or other health professionals involved in your care.

How it works

How your visits are arranged

  • Times that suit you: visit times are agreed in your care plan.
  • As often as you need: one or several visits a day, including weekends.
  • Familiar faces: a small team of carers who get to know you.
  • Regular reviews: we check your care still fits and adjust as needs change.
